Janis Lee is a native of Kensington, a graduate of Kansas State University, and a former school board member and state senator. Janis was elected as a democrat to serve in the state senate from 1989 until 2011, when she accepted appointment to be the Chief Hearing Officer for the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals from 2011-2013. After 40 years of farming with her brother, Janis and her husband Lyn retired to Hays; and in March of 2024, Sen. Lee joined the Kansans First Board of Directors!
